Is it dangerous to say that I don’t know how i feel about July 4th, “Independence Day” in 2017?
It certainly feels like it.
As a boy growing up in North East Texas it felt OK. But as a serial entrepreneur of color in my mid 30’s, living in the South, I feel conflicted at best on this day.
I find myself wondering if my ancestors who were in bondage on July 4th, 1776, celebrated “Independence Day” or if they even knew that “we” were free.. If they did know, did they feel rage or envy? Or were they conflicted too?
